Downey Brewing Company 2nd Anniversary Party!

Last year we had a party for our 1st Anniversary and it was awesome!! Biggest night in company history awesome actually. This year we will be setting the bar at “double awesome!”

That’s right on November 5th, 2018 we will officially have made two laps around the sun as Downey Brewing Company!! Can you believe it? Two years in the beer business calls for a super celebration. November 5th happens to fall on a Monday this year so we will be throwing the party on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018.

If you made it out for last year’s celebration you know that it will be one not to miss. Here’s why:

- The 1st 100 Guests will be going home with a badass commemorative 2nd Anniversary Downey Brewing Company Pint Glass

- We will be releasing the 2018 “BATCH ONE”

- The “2016 Corn Whiskey Aged BATCH ONE” Will Be Tap

- Holy Smokes that’s a lot of great beer!! Maybe there will be some more tricks up our sleeve too ;)

- We will be offering up some delicious food on the night of the party so be sure to bring your appetites.

Also, as a special thank you to our Dean’s List Members, we will be granting them VIP early access from 3PM-4PM.

Beer, Boos, and Vinyl With Stormy Records

Boo!

Let’s get this party started! We’ve been thinking about doing a Vinyl night at Downey for a little while now and have picked out a date to spin those records!

On Saturday, October 27th we will be hosting our first ever vinyl listening party.

The idea is pretty straight forward, we’re planning on sharing some great music, great beer, and having some great fun! In doing so, we’re super excited to announce we will be partnering and co-hosting with another local East Dearborn business, Stormy Records!!

Here’s the plan:

We’ll be setting up a record player and some speakers, assembling the coolest people we know, and playing vinyl records for one another.

It’s not a requirement but you’d definitely be a lot cooler if you brought your own record or few to spin your own track.

We’re thinking of laying down some very basic ground rules regarding the DJ’ing. We’ll have a sign up sheet where you can put your name down to have your shot at sharing your favorite music. No more than two songs played during your session. You’ll have a chance to put your name back on the list once everyone gets a chance spin. You’ll be in charge or putting on your own record and picking the track/s you want to play.

Don’t know what to play? Don’t worry about it, play a personal favorite, a classic, something danceable, something mellow, it doesn’t matter! Variety is the spice of life and any and all music is acceptable. The decision is up to you! It just has to be on vinyl, that rich, layered, grooviness is what we are looking for!!

We’re planning on providing some light appetizers along with your favorite craft beer!

Last, but not least being this is the last Saturday before Halloween we’re adding one final twist to this funky party! Costumes!! Feel free to dress up in your best Halloween costumes!! We will be awarding some kick ass prizes for best custom. Also, Stormy Records will be bringing some fun Halloween songs to play in between what other people are playing.

In addition to playing some fun Halloween songs, Stormy Records will have a table with some records from the shop and information about them and their business. Mostly, classic rock albums will be featured such as Led Zeppelin, Peter Frampton, The Doors, etc. Stormy Records plans on bringing some light apps as well!!

Can’t wait to see you there!!

Sporcle Live – What the heck is it??

Sporcle Live is our bread & butter pub trivia experience.
What is pub trivia?

Glad you asked.

Pub trivia is a quiz night or a live, hosted trivia experience at a bar, brewery, restaurant, corporate event, fund raiser, barn, flash mob – you get the idea.

Sporcle live trivia game format was built from scratch in 2009 and has evolved to its current form after being played by hundreds of thousands of people. The game is delivered to you by a live host, who we affectionately call the Trivia MC.

The MCs are not boring drones with a microphone. They have charisma, pizzazz, personality. Oh and they smell good too.

HOW IT WORKS:
• Your team registers to play with the host. It’s free and the hosts don’t bite…much.
• Play alone or with friends, either way we are not here to judge.
• You pick a team name – make it funny, for example ‘A Trivia Team with a Drinking Problem’ or ‘Suck It Trebek’
• We play two games in a night that take just under an hour each to complete, which is awesome cause it gives you twice the chances to win a gift card at any given show.
• Our partnered venues supply gift cards to the top two teams in each game. Gift cards amount vary by location.

THE RULES:
1. The regular round has ten questions. You’ll be given the categories ahead of time.
2. You must assign a point value of between 1 and 10 for each answer you provide. You can only use each point value one time per game. Your game sheet will have pre-printed point values on it to help you keep track.
3. Teams are given 2-3 minutes to turn in an answer to the Trivia MC. Use of a smart phone, tablet, etc. is punishable by public shaming and/or wedgies.
4. After the ten regular questions comes the Mystery Round. This will be four questions, rapid fire style, all following the same theme. Note – the Mystery Round in the second game of the night is always a visual round
5. After an update on the standings, the final question is read to the teams. Teams can wager up to 20 of the points they had earned to that point on the final question. They must make the wager only knowing the category. After all wagers are in, the Trivia MC will read the question. If a team gets the answer correct, their wager is added to their score. If it is incorrect, the wager is subtracted from their score. The top teams at the end of this question are awarded the prizes.

OTHER CRAZY IMPORTANT STUFF:
Don’t forget that we offer the best pub trivia league in the country. This is free to join and the winnings are in addition to gift cards your team may win.

We post a clue of the day on all of our Sporcle Live Facebook pages. Find the Facebook page for your particular area by visiting our locations pages.

We ask one additional question in our weekly email newsletter. The only way to get that question is to sign up for the newsletter. If you provide the answer for that question, you’ll receive three additional points.

The Brewery Comedy TOUR at Downey Brewing Company

Herron Entertainment has been producing the best shows at clubs and theaters across the country and is now bringing those same great shows to the breweries across America. Featuring comedians in an environment they truly can feel at home in.

Herron Entertainment continues to lead the way in comedy with its cross country brewery tour. Featuring some of the best NYC and LA based comedians without NYC/LA prices because we know your money is important to you and only want you to enjoy a nice night out - without having to take out a loan.

Comedy Clubs all over the country have been producing the same style of comedy since the 1980s and have yet to step outside of the bubble and mix up their stale lineups - so we will do it instead. We will bring the future of entertainment to you.

When our stand up comedy, cross country brewery tour kicks off, we will be featuring the best and brightest NYC/LA based comedians and every city in between. As of February, Herron has 98 breweries lined up and has set a goal of visiting 300 breweries this year alone. We have spent 8 months planning and scouting the perfect locations for these shows and NONE of them will disappoint you. Some have gourmet food (not soggy chicken tendies) and ICE COLD beer made FRESH on location so there's no skunk funk or watery drinks for $15 each (see above re: taking out a loan)

2 - 4 of these comics will be touring your state(s) and cities performing in breweries and bars sampling the local fare, local brew and making you laugh. Get tickets fast - these shows are all selling out.

ON TAP (pun intended) for Herron Entertainment, LLC is "The BREWERY COMEDY TOUR" and it's picking up much steam as it heads into 2018 promising to hit 300 breweries all across the U.S.A.

As a likable comic’s comic, Cody is a hit with every type of crowd as evidenced by touring the road with a wide variety of comedians such as Todd Glass, Luenell, Dave Attell, the Wayans, Eddie Griffin, Bruce Bruce, Tommy Davidson, Greg Proops and many more. It’s that time of the year. It’s time to go out for a lash! Time for green beer and getting your Irish on!!! Come celebrate in style at Downey Brewing Company. Who’s ready for round two of St. Paddy’s @ Downey’s??

We are releasing our famous St. Paddy’s Day Snake Banisher Stout!! ANNND we are putting it on Nitro!! The beer is legendary just like the late great Saint himself.

Beer Details:

ST. PATRICK’S SNAKE BANISHER STOUT (NITRO): Just as St. Patrick banished all the snakes from Ireland, we hope this beer will banish all the bad beer from Michigan. We used lots of roasted grains to give you bold, roasty, rich flavors. Next we put the beer on nitro to give you that awesome cascade of bubbles and a frothy head. Get it here because this is a tap-room only beer. Sláinte! ABV: 4.3% IBU: 27 SRM: 42 STYLE

Another one of our Irish flavors will also be joining us for the party!! The likes of which we have not seen in many, many, a month!! Who remembers Downey’s Irish-American Red Ale?

DOWNEY’S IRISH-AMERICAN RED ALE: This beer is why we love brewing. We took the classic Irish Red and put an American spin on it. It has a hint of roasted grain that gives it dry finish, but a great nutty flavor. We used American hops in an Irish Beer Style. It pays homage to our Irish heritage and American flair. ABV: 5.0% - IBU: 24 - SRM: 11 - STYLE: Irish American Red Ale

BTW we’ll be serving up green beer and Irish tunes all night long. We’re opening at 10 AM instead of our usual 4 PM Saturday start. Also, we not shutting down at 10 PM either so you can get your Irish on like a blind cobbler’s thumb!!

Game On! (Jon Langford & John Szymanski + Tony Paris & Burnin Sugar)

MARCH ON!

From the teeth of winter into the torrents of spring

We celebrate the spirit of the 1932 Ford Hunger Marchers

And move towards the opening of the Fort Street Bridge Park

With beer, and song, and love in our hearts...

On Friday March 2nd, we are hosting some awesome musical talent and raising some money for a great cause to help the community!!

Imagine a park located in the heart of southwest Detroit’s heavy industrial area that will commemorate historical events while enhancing the lower Rouge River and bringing new life and green infrastructure to the area.

The Fort Street Bridge Park will be built to commemorate the 1932 Ford Hunger March.  A pivotal moment in automotive and American labor history.  The protester's whose signs read “We want Bread Not Crumbs” clashed with police and Ford’s security forces escalated into what became known as the Ford Massacre which claimed the lives of five people leaving more than sixty injured.

The vision for the park is a resting spot for people traveling in the area with information about the Hunger March and also about the Rouge River and Oakwood community industrial history.

Here is a video about the park:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYZCqdKcSJ0

The location of the park is at the intersections of Denmark Street and Fort Street immediately adjacent to the recently updated Fort Street Bridge just down the road from the Marathon Refinery.

This event, MARCH ON, will help raise additional funds to bring the project to life.  As it stands now the project has all the plans in place.  They have permission from the city.  All they need is some additional funding!!

To help with the fundraising we are charging $10.00 for this event.  The price of the ticket includes a beer and music for the night!

You can purchase your ticket online or at the door.

Downey Brewing Company 1st Anniversary 11.04.17, 5PM

This is awesome!

On November 5th, 2017 we will officially have made one lap around the sun as Downey Brewing Company! That’s right one year in business and that calls for a celebration. Saturday’s make for a better party day than Sunday so we’ll be hosting the one-year anniversary party on November 4th, 2017.

This is one celebration you will not want to miss!! Here’s why…

- The 1st 100 Guests to arrive will be going home with a super awesome commemorative 1st Anniversary Downey Brewing Company Pint Glass.

- Our corn whiskey aged BATCH ONE that was been chilling behind the bar for a year will be released!! It was taken real patience not to sneak in a taste.

- The Hard Cider returns for its official re-release!!

- In addition to the barrel aged corn whiskey BATCH ONE, we also have a secret stash of the rye aged YANG. We sampled this at our summer beer fest and it was quite delicious.

- ANNNDD we have another special RELEASE planned for the event. Maybe you’ve heard the whispers, it has been fermenting with much anticipation. It’s time to get excited for APPLE MOON, a cinnamon apple brown ale.

- Last but not least we will be offering a food pairing. Pete from Culinary Creations will be matching up some custom receipts to pair with our tap list.

Also, as a special thank you to our Dean’s List Members, we will be granting them VIP early access from 4PM-5PM.

General Admission at 5 PM.

Note: This will NOT be a ticketed event like our Grand Opening. We will be using a cash and tab system just like any other day.

Can't wait to see you there!!!
